New 2-week format and 2 new courses. Details below.
We are using some of the hottest games for our Gaming Tournaments including Unreal Tournament 3 & Call of Duty® 4: Modern Warfare™!
Program Overview
The iD Gaming Academy (iDGA) is offered at Emory University, our NEW location for 2008! You can also find our video game design camps at Stanford University, UCLA & Villanova University! Creating an immersive experience in the dynamic worlds of game development and professional gaming, our video game camp courses are geared for beginning to advanced teens aged 13-17.
New Format
Each session for our video game camp spans two weeks in 2008—the perfect duration for new or returning students who want to focus on a single aspect of game development, or enroll in multiple sessions covering comprehensive topics.
New Courses
We’ve added two brand new courses this year:
Instruction
Our video game camps are taught by top tier instructors with demonstrated game development skills or pro gaming experience. Read more about this phenomenal line up. Go.
Software
We feature powerful, industry-standard applications like Autodesk® Maya®, Adobe® Photoshop®, Quake®, Unreal Tournament 3, Unreal Engine and of course some of the latest, most popular commercial video games for instructional purposes and serious gameplay.
Studio Tour
A major game development studio tour will anchor each session as we learn first-hand how industry professionals create premier commercial games. Students in our programs at Stanford and UCLA will visit Electronic Arts®. Students in our Emory programs will visit Hi-Rez Studios. Students at our Villanova location will be visiting Big Huge Games.
Serious Gameplay & Gaming Tournaments
After each day’s instruction, we’ll learn from the experts by playing some of the most popular commercial games on the market. Students can expect late-night NVIDIA®-hosted gaming tournaments (including multiplayer console tournaments during evening activities), LAN parties and instructional hours that begin later in the day (10:00 AM), depending on location. For more information go to the Gaming Tournaments page for iDGA.
But don’t let the gameplay fool you—this is all part of the academy curriculum. Working on both team and personal projects from concept to completion, our teen camp graduates leave the academy with a gaming portfolio, cutting-edge software, and the tools to not only compete, but excel, in the rapidly expanding fields of game development and professional video gaming.
What will students take home?
In addition to new skill and confidence in the emerging fields of game development and pro gaming, each student will go home with:
A copy of Autodesk Maya® PLE
A retail copy of a popular commercial video game used at the Academy
A PC Gaming Headset
A DVD portfolio created over each 2-week session
Students enrolling in Camp Fatal1ty™ will also receive a customized Fatal1ty® keyboard
